History
Kismet Public Library was established by a vote of the citizens of Kismet in March 1984,
and operated as a city library until 2007. In April 2007, the registered voters residing in
the area in Seward County encompassed by the boundaries of the USD 483 school
district overwhelmingly voted in favor of forming a library district. The library district
includes the city of Kismet and the rural areas surrounding it located within the
boundaries of the USD 483 school district in Seward County.
For twenty-three years, the library was housed in the north room of the City Hall
building. The library served the community in the larger room on the south side in the
city building, beginning in 2007 until moving into the new building.
Constructed during 2023, Kismet Public Library opened the new library building to the
community in January 2024. The new building is a beautiful addition to the community
as Kismet Public Library continues to serve the patrons of the service area in a larger,
more accessible facility.
